Last year alone saw a 10.4 per cent decline in the number of banks on our high streets. Almost 200 residents responded to my petition calling for banking hubs in South Shropshire. I am devastated that this has been ruled this out. LINK, which decides on their location, has stated that Bridgnorth is still served by Nationwide and HSBC, while Ludlow retains NatWest and Nationwide branches. They have told me that they will not review their decision unless one of these branches:
- Opens less than 4 days a week
- Is inaccessible to residents
- Does not offer cash services
I have shared LINK’s response with Ministers and urged them to review the eligibility criteria. Urgent action must be taken to stop these areas from becoming banking deserts. Find out more about my campaign here:
