Ludlow Community Hospital Plan
Ludlow Community Hospital is an important part of our health system in South Shropshire. Yet, the building has continued to show signs of significant deterioration and questions have been raised about its sustainability in the longer term.
While Stuart welcomes the Government's plan to make the NHS more neighbourly, he hopes that rural areas like South Shropshire will feature prominently in it.
Stuart has endorsed proposals for redevelopment at Ludlow Eco Park, which show promising signs of a solution to improve health provision in the area.
The Eco Park, owned by Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (ShropComm), is just one mile away from the current building and has great potential to become a fantastic local healthcare community hub for patients.
Stuart Anderson MP said:
"The health and wellbeing of my constituents is a top priority of mine. I want to do all that I can to secure better investment for local services that improves the quality of services in rural areas like mine to make them faster, simpler, and fairer to access and achieve better outcomes for our residents. I am clear about the importance of community healthcare facilities for rural communities and will push the government to recognise this as part of its plans to transform the NHS into a neighbourhood health service."
Key Milestones:
- July 2025: Stuart responded to the government's ten-year health strategy. He said that it overlooks the potential of community hospitals to "put care on people's doorsteps", as the Prime Minister had promised to do.
- June 2025: Stuart welcomed government support to improve ventilation systems at Bridgnorth Community Hospital and called for longer-term funding in rural health services.
- May 2025: Stuart Anderson MP used the first question on his return to the House of Commons to champion investment in rural healthcare. He said "Community hospitals can reduce pressure on major hospitals."
- January 2025: Stuart met with the League of Friends of Ludlow’s Community Hospital to discuss calls for "an enhancement of services at the hospital and also to champion a new hospital build on the existing EcoPark originally set aside for that purpose."
- November 2024: Ludlow Community Hospital was put on the parliamentary agenda by Stuart, who called on Ministers to improve local healthcare provision in rural communities. It was part of Health and Social Care Questions in Parliament.
- October 2024: Stuart invited Health Secretary Wes Streeting to meet with him in either Parliament or on the site in Ludlow to discuss healthcare facilities in Ludlow and the surrounding areas, as he seeks to champion investment in local facilities.
- April 2024: Stuart launched a survey, seeking the views of South Shropshire residents on their experience of the NHS to direct our focus towards the key priorities.
- March 2024: Stuart welcomed then Health Minister Andrew Stephenson to Shropshire alongside former MP Philip Dunne to find out more about plans to improve health provision in the local area, with a visit to Ludlow Eco Park.
- October 2023: Stuart visited Ludlow Community Hospital with former MP Philip Dunne at the request of the Hospital’s League of Friends to understand current challenges facing this vital community hospital.
