Stuart Anderson MP has announced further details of his upcoming community jobs fair. The event will be held on Friday, the 5th of November between 10 am and 2pm at Wolverhampton Racecourse, Gorsebrook Road. The event will be the first of its kind locally as the city recovers from the pandemic.
Since Stuart announced the event, over thirty of the city’s largest and most successful businesses have signed up, meaning that a range of sectors will be represented. This includes the West Midlands Police, the 2022 Commonwealth Games team, Severn Trent, Western Power Distribution, the Armed Forces, and the City of Wolverhampton Council.
Stuart has said that the event will be a unique occasion for like-minded businesses to network and for local people to explore the range of job opportunities and careers available locally. The full list of attending businesses will be announced closer to the time. Free transport will be available to help those attending the event and refreshments will be provided.
The jobs fair is the next stage in Stuart’s plan to promote the economic wellbeing of his constituents. Since his election,
Stuart has been working hard to ensure more jobs are delivered for local people. In Wolverhampton, the Government’s Plan for Jobs has supported thousands of individuals through the income support schemes and is helping get more people back into work. Across the UK, the headline unemployment rate has fallen for six months in a row and job vacancies are at record highs. In Stuart’s constituency, the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits has fallen by 50 since July. Yet, the claimant count remains above national average and Stuart is determined to do more.
Stuart’s community jobs fair complements the range of other support available. For example, the National Careers Service is connecting people across the country with the latest opportunities and can be contacted on 0800 100 900. Moreover, over 63,000 young people across the country have started a new job through the £2 billion Kickstart Scheme, and the £2.9 billion Restart Scheme is providing intensive help to over a million jobseekers of all ages at the greatest risk of long-term unemployment.
Stuart Anderson MP said: “As our recovery from COVID-19 gathers pace, it is right to focus on getting more people back into work and employment, while continuing to support the elderly and vulnerable. That is why I have teamed up with some of Wolverhampton’s most successful businesses to showcase the range of careers and jobs that are available across our great city. I look forward to welcoming everyone to Wolverhampton Racecourse on Friday, the 5th of November.”
