Stuart Anderson MP is backing the Big Energy Saving Winter campaign. It is being led by Citizens Advice, the Energy Saving Trust, and the Government’s Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy. As part of the campaign, Stuart has produced an energy saving guide. It is available to download from his website.
The campaign has three parts; to encourage constituents to check that they aren’t paying too much for their energy or missing out on any benefits, grants, or support that could boost their income and lower costs; to let constituents know that they could save hundreds of pounds by switching their energy tariff or supplier; and signposting ways constituents can make their home more energy efficient.
Improving the energy efficiency of homes will play a critical role in delivering the UK’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, including net zero by 2050 as well as lifting households out of fuel poverty. The Government has published a White Paper on energy which affirms the Government’s commitment to create a fair deal for consumers and provide opportunities to make savings on energy bills.
Already, the Government is taking decisive action. Homeowners and landlords in England can apply for vouchers from a £2 billion Green Homes Grant scheme to pay for green improvements such as loft, wall and floor insulation. It could save some households hundreds of pounds a year on energy bills. Households struggling with their bills are also eligible for insulation measures, including solid wall insulation, through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. Homeowners and those in privately rented homes who are on specific benefits may be eligible for support towards heating improvements, including oil-fired boiler replacements, through ECO Affordable Warmth. There are also Winter Fuel Payments, Cold Weather Payments and the Warm Home Discount.
Stuart Anderson MP said: “It is essential that we all work together to ensure that constituents get the best deal when it comes to energy bills, and that they have access to the information that they need to stay warm this winter. That is why I have produced my energy saving guide. I would encourage all constituents to find out how they can check, switch and save or by visiting my website or by contacting my office directly and we will help you.”
