- The A49 roadworks at Onibury were first raised by Stuart Anderson MP in November 2025.
- National Highways gave assurances in March 2026 that works would be completed by the end of April 2026.
- Stuart has now requested an urgent meeting with National Highways to secure a clear explanation.
Stuart Anderson MP said:
“I am extremely disappointed to have written to National Highways requesting a meeting about the ongoing A49 roadworks at Onibury. Despite being told in November that these repairs were a priority and assured in March that they would be completed by the end of April, the deadline has passed and the roadworks remain. Residents have expressed concerns about road safety and pollution, with some even avoiding Craven Arms altogether, which is impacting local businesses. I first raised this issue nearly six months ago and have yet to receive answers to my simple questions: what is causing the delays and when will the work be finished? I will continue to push for answers on behalf of our community.”
Stuart Anderson MP has expressed his frustration after writing again to National Highways regarding the prolonged A49 roadworks at Onibury, which have now overrun previously stated completion dates.
Residents have reported longer commute times, safety concerns, and increased pollution. The disruption is also having a knock-on effect, with some people avoiding Craven Arms and surrounding areas, which is hurting footfall for local shops and services.
Stuart first raised the issue nearly six months ago. In November 2025, Stuart was told that repairs were being treated as a priority. In March 2026, Stuart then received assurances that the works would be completed by the end of April. That deadline has now passed, yet the roadworks remain in place.
Stuart has now requested an urgent meeting with National Highways to secure a clear explanation for the delays and a definitive completion date. He has pledged to keep residents updated and will not let the matter drop until the works are finished and the A49 is fully reopened.
