Stuart Anderson MP has urged residents and businesses across South Shropshire to throw their support behind local veterans, as the Royal British Legion launched its annual Poppy Appeal on Thursday, 23rd October 2025.
Running since 1921, the annual charity event, which raised £51.4 million last year, has a dual purpose - to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to raise money for those who have been left disadvantaged by their time on active service.
In South Shropshire:
As part of this year's campaign, Stuart has urged business owners and shop keepers across South Shropshire to get involved by getting a collection box for their shop, office, or workplace.
They can contact Shropshire's local Poppy Appeal Organiser (PAO) directly, or the Royal British Legion's Supporter Care Team by calling 0345 845 1945 or sending an email to [email protected].
The campaign will run until Armistice Day on Tuesday, 11th November. This year, Remembrance Sunday will take place on Sunday, 9th November 2025.
In the run up to this, thousands of people will volunteer their time to sell poppies and collect donations for the RBL's Poppy Appeal. Stuart has called for more people in South Shropshire to get involved.
Stuart is encouraging everyone who can to donate to the Poppy Appeal and to display a red poppy - on their person, in their window, or in their car - in support of those who have proudly served our country in the Armed Forces.
In Parliament:
To mark the start of Remembrance 2025, Stuart visited the House of Commons Books of Remembrance. The books commemorate Members of Parliament, their staff, and families who died in the First and Second World Wars.
Individual pages within the books document the name, rank, and biographical summary of each person commemorated. Stuart said it was a "poignant reminder" of the "precious freedoms" that MPs are elected to protect and preserve.
Throughout the year, Stuart has shown his support for fellow veterans. Stuart's Veteran's Support Navigator helps members of the Armed Forces community to better locate support available to them.

Stuart Anderson MP said:
"As a veteran, Remembrance is always a time of intensified emotion. South Shropshire is proudly home to more than 4,000 veterans, representing almost one in ten households. This year, I am urging residents and businesses across South Shropshire to throw their support behind our veterans by donating to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal. I also hope that business owners and shop keepers will get involved by displaying a collection box in their office, shop, or workplace.”
Stuart Anderson MP said:
”This year, I have also visited the House of Commons Books of Remembrance. These books, which commemorate Members of Parliament, their staff, and families who died in the First and Second World Wars, are poignant reminders of the precious freedoms that we are elected to protect and preserve. I would encourage everyone to support our veterans during this time of Remembrance."
Remembrance 2025:
On Sunday 9th November 2025, the nation will gather together for a two-minute silence at 11am.
Remembrance events will take place at war memorials and public places throughout the UK and Commonwealth, including a National Service of Remembrance attended by the Royal Family at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.
Free rail travel has been offered for serving military personnel and veterans who are attending Services of Remembrance across Great Britain on Sunday, 9th November 2025.
On Tuesday 11th November 2025, the nation will again be invited to pause for a two-minute silence as part of Armistice Day commemorations. Armistice Day has been observed every year since 1919.
The silence falls at the time in 1918 that the First World War ended.
