Stuart Anderson MP Re-Adopted as South Shropshire's Conservative Candidate

Stuart Anderson MP Re-Adopted as South Shropshire's Conservative Candidate

Stuart Anderson MP has been re-adopted by South Shropshire Conservative Association just ten months into his first term in office. It means that Stuart will contest the seat on behalf of the Conservative Party at the next General Election, which is expected to be held no later than 15th August 2029.

The motion to re-adopt Stuart was passed by members of the Association at their Annual General Meeting (AGM). Stuart was initially selected as the Association's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in July 2023.

He went on to achieve a majority of 1,624 in the General Election a year later. Since his election, Stuart has returned to the backbenches where he has been a vocal member of the Opposition. He has submitted over 670 written questions and dealt with over 7,000 enquiries.

At the meeting Stuart spoke about his long-term commitment to South Shropshire. Stuart has spent over forty years in the Marches, having grown up in Herefordshire before he joined the Armed Forces after leaving school.

Stuart returned to the Marches more than three years ago where he lives with his wife and children, who attend a local school and enjoy spending time enjoying the county's beautiful countryside.

South Shropshire was reconstituted as a parliamentary constituency in 2024 - 139 years after it was dissolved in 1885. This followed a Periodic Review of Parliamentary Constituencies that was conducted by the Boundary Commission in 2023.

Stuart's six-point plan for South Shropshire is to unleash rural prosperity; enhance public services; invest in infrastructure; champion our farmers; support local communities; and protect our countryside.

Stuart's Annual Report, published in December 2024, documents progress against these aims. It includes a major victory, having secured £312 million for the Hospital Transformation Programme.

With strong local support, Stuart prevented the closure of the recycling centres in Craven Arms and Bridgnorth. He has also ensured that Post Office services in Clunton and Clunbury have remained open after closure notices were issued last July.

Following the closure of Lloyds bank branches in Ludlow and Bridgnorth, Stuart now hopes to secure banking hubs - with his petition having gained over 160 signatures. Stuart is also campaigning against the Family Farm Tax, with agricultural businesses forming more than a quarter of local businesses.

In addition, Stuart hopes to improve mobility connectivity and support for community hospitals, secure a fairer deal for park home residents, reinstate Winter Fuel Payments for pensioners who have had their access restricted, and permanently reduce the rate of VAT levied on food sales in hospitality businesses.

Stuart Anderson MP said:

"It is a great honour to have been re-adopted as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for South Shropshire just ten months in my first term in office. I have spent over forty years of my life in the Marches, having grown up in Herefordshire and spent much of my childhood in Shropshire. I am humbled to represent, as its MP, an area that is so close to my heart. These are vital times for Shropshire, and my plan sets out how I will champion the needs and aspirations of our while community to ensure that it can flourish in the years ahead."
