Stuart Anderson MP has welcomed the return of Farm Safety Week 2026, running from 20th to 24th July.
Now in its 14th year, Farm Safety Week is run by the Farm Safety Foundation – Yellow Wellies – and this year will focus not on statistics, but on the people behind those statistics.

“Having begun my career as a farmhand, I know that farming remains one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. Farming accounts for just 1% of the working population but 19% of all workplace deaths. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community impacted. That is why I am proud to support Farm Safety Week 2026 and the vital work of everyone involved in promoting safer farming including Yellow Wellies, the Farm Safety Foundation. It is a moment for us to come together, talk openly, and look out for each other, both on the farm and with our mental health. I encourage every farm and agricultural business to take part in Farm Safety Week. We must do much more to protect the physical and mental wellbeing of our farmers.”
In Parliament on 15th July 2026, Stuart Anderson MP was delighted to meet with representatives from the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) ahead of the launch of Farm Safety Week, which aims to preserve and protect the physical and mental wellbeing of farmers. The week of events aims to challenge attitudes towards risk-taking and poor safety behaviours in order to reduce the number of life-changing and life-ending injuries on farms. Growing up in Herefordshire, one of Stuart’s first jobs was as a farm hand, so he has a deep understanding of the vital role that farmers play in local communities like South Shropshire.
As a Member of Parliament, Stuart has consistently supports efforts to improve both farm safety and rural mental health. In May 2024, he launched a Mental Health Hub on his website to make it easier for residents to find and access support. The information signposts both government and external services for anyone experiencing challenges with their mental health. In June 2026, Stuart welcomed the launch of the FarmersAid App by the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI). The free app is designed to support farmers and others in rural communities across the country, including South Shropshire, by connecting them to a range of practical, financial, and emotional help.
Farming accounts for just 1% of the working population but 19% of all workplace deaths. In 2025/26, 29 people lost their lives in agriculture, forestry and fishing, including seven members of the public, three of whom were children. Agricultural workers are seven times more likely to be killed than those on construction sites and around 8,000 farm workers are injured annually.
