Stuart Anderson MP has celebrated forty years of Shropshire Rural Housing Association. To mark the occasion, Stuart attended the official opening of their latest developed in Chirbury called 'The Orchard' on 24th September 2025.
Originally known as the National Agricultural Committee Housing Association, their first homes were built in Hadnall in 1982. The organisation subsequently became Shropshire Rural in March 1985.
At the event, Stuart met with residents who have taken up tenancy at the thirteen affordable homes on the site, as well as key local organisations that have been developed in the development.
This includes Powis Estates together with Shropshire Council, and Homes England - the government’s housing and regeneration agency.
The Orchard represents a landmark development by providing affordable homes for social rent, with priority given to local people who have a local connection to Chirbury with Brompton Parish, including work and family ties.
The development aims to meet the significant need for affordable housing in rural Shropshire - promoting sustainable communities and supporting local services.
Stuart has supported the development as part of his plan to unlock rural prosperity in South Shropshire. Stuart wants to make the area the best place to live, work, and visit with more options to build successfully futures locally.

"As Shropshire Rural Housing Association celebrates forty years of providing affordable housing, I was thrilled to attend the official opening of their latest housing development in Chirbury called The Orchard on 24th September 2025. I met residents who have recently taken up tenancy there as well as organisations that have been involved with the development of this fantastic project - including Powis Estates, Shropshire Council, and Homes England. Crucially, this landmark housing development provides a range of homes at social rent, enabling people with local work and family ties to stay in the area and build successful futures."
