Stuart Anderson MP Welcomes Progress on Former Costa Building Redevelopment
Stuart Anderson MP held a meeting with a representative of SEP Properties, the Mayor of Ludlow Councillor Di Lyle, and Tracey Richardson of the local residents’ group Ludlow Regeneration Focus Group to discuss progress on the future redevelopment of the former Costa building in Ludlow town centre.
The meeting provided an opportunity for local stakeholders to receive a direct update on the proposed development and the ongoing work taking place behind the scenes to advance the project.
During the meeting, stakeholders were provided with an update on the progress being made on the site, including the extensive work taking place behind the scenes involving architects, heritage specialists, structural engineers and planning consultants to help bring the project forward.
Plans are currently being finalised, to include residential accommodation on the upper floors, while retaining retail space on the ground floor, subject to the necessary planning and listed building approvals. The original proposal was to incorporate No. 3, the former bank building, with the Costa site at Nos. 4 & 5. However, following a review of the project, SEP has decided to progress No. 3 independently, as the building is already in good order, with plans for retail on the ground floor and residential accommodation above.
SEP Properties confirmed that the project remains an active priority and that pre-application discussions with planning and conservation officers are expected to take place in the coming months.
Given the historic and prominent nature of the building within Ludlow, all parties agreed on the importance of maintaining open communication with local residents as plans progress.
Stuart Anderson said:
“I was pleased to bring together all parties for a constructive and positive discussion about the future of this important building. Residents understandably want to see progress, and it was encouraging to hear that there are active plans being worked on behind the scenes. Maintaining communication with the local community throughout this process will be essential.”
Councillor Di Lyle, Mayor of Ludlow, said:
"I was pleased to hear the proposals for this iconic building and very much hope the commitment to deliver them remains firm."
Tracey Richardson of Ludlow Regeneration Focus Group added:
"It was most encouraging to establish direct contact with a member of the project team, who has agreed to update us on a regular basis regarding the progress being made to bring the old Costa Building and Barclays Bank back to life. It is certainly an ambitious project, but there is a plan, a desire and experts in place to make it happen."
SEP Properties welcomed the opportunity to meet with Stuart and local stakeholders and confirmed they look forward to continuing discussions as proposals progress through the next stages of the planning process.
