Stuart Anderson MP is delighted to be supporting English Tourism Week, which highlights the importance of tourism and the benefits for local communities. It runs from the 18th to the 27th of March 2022. Earlier in the month, Stuart visited the Molineux Stadium to celebrate the vital role that Wolverhampton Wanderers have played in the city for more than a hundred years.
At the Molineux, he met with executives to learn more about their local outreach and engagement work, including the Wolves Foundation which works with some of the most deprived children in the city to engage them in fun, enriching activities. Its latest impact report showcases the amazing work being achieved having, for example, delivered 150 hours of physical activity to young people during the school holidays. Stuart is pleased to support the Foundation by, for example, having taken part in the Molineux Sleep Out over the last three years to raise funds for them.
Stuart has called on residents to throw their support behind the club and other organisations, as the recovery of the sector from COVID-19 gets underway. To help with the cost of days out, national lottery players can claim a £25 voucher via the National Lottery Days Out Scheme. The Government has provided over £35 billion in support to the tourism, leisure and hospitality sectors over the course of the pandemic in the form of grants, loans, and tax breaks and will continue to provide financial support in the months ahead. This is being supported by the Government's Tourism Recovery Plan. The Government has announced £4 million in new funding to the Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund to level up access to arts and culture. This will support the improvement of displays, protect collections, and make museums and galleries more accessible to visitors.
Preparations are also now well underway for the Commonwealth Games, with the road cycling time trial starting and finishing at West Park on Thursday the 4th of August 2022. The Games will be the biggest sporting event ever held in the West Midlands. With the potential to attract a global audience of 1.5 billion and around 1 million tickets, it is an excellent opportunity for tourist attractions. The Government is investing £21.3 million to attract investment, businesses and visitors.
Stuart Anderson MP said: “I am delighted to support English Tourism Week. The West Midlands has some of the best tourist attractions to offer to the rest of the world. From theatres and galleries to historic houses and beautiful parks, there is so much to see and do in our great city of Wolverhampton. English Tourism Week is an excellent opportunity to support the sector and visit some of these fantastic places, and I call on everyone to do so.”
