Stuart Anderson MP has launched a COVID-19 recovery plan for Wolverhampton South West. It is based on a survey of local priorities which Stuart has recently conducted. 365 constituents responded to tell Stuart about their needs and aspirations for the future. Stuart has now set a clear plan to build a safer and cleaner Wolverhampton that champions the health and wellbeing of local people, protects the natural environment, and promotes economic opportunities to build a brighter future for young people.
Over 70% of respondents agreed with the top four priorities listed in Stuart’s survey. This includes action to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour (89%); secure extra investment for the city centre (80%); create better training and employment opportunities (80%); and protect our greenbelt from development by regenerating derelict brownfield sites (77%). 39% of respondents prioritise supporting local businesses and 37% would like to see more done to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. 37% want to see council tax kept low and 35% want to see council waste and bureaucracy reduced. Over third-thirds respondents considered the measures in the Government’s Plan for Jobs as ‘very important.’ While 57% of respondents reported that they had not experienced or witnessed crime or anti-social behaviour, 54% expressed concerns about road safety and speeding in the area. 53% of respondents were also concerned about burglary and robbery and 38% were concerned about anti-social behaviour[1].
Stuart has committed to taking these issues forward as part of his work as the Member of Parliament. As part of this submission to the Chancellor’s Spending Review, Stuart called on the Government to double down on investment in local communities and explore innovative solutions to tackle local issues such as anti-social behaviour. Stuart also called on the Government to back the police with the resources needed to keep citizens safe and commit to ideas which make our communities safer places. Stuart has published the findings on his website along with his funding recommendations to the Chancellor. He is keeping his website updated with his work on these campaigns: www.stuartanderson.org.uk/myplan.
Stuart Anderson MP said: “I am proud to be the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton South West. I have seen our great community spirit first-hand in our city’s response to COVID-19. As we build back better, I am determined to ensure that local people are supported in our recovery. Constituents responded in their hundreds to my local priorities survey, taking the time to tell me about their needs and aspirations for our recovery from COVID-19.
My five-point plan prioritises the needs and aspirations of our city to make life better for local people. The priorities identified will help us build a safer and cleaner Wolverhampton that champions the health and wellbeing of local people, protects our environment, and promotes opportunities so that young people have a brighter future. I have already got to work delivering on these priorities, having made a formal submission to the Spending Review.”
